Shawn Deandre Thomas was eating graham crackers at St. Georges Church in Rivera Beach, Florida, which is located in Palm Beach County. The church provides meals for homeless people. Police told NBC6 South Florida that Thomas became upset when someone asked to have his crackers.
Thomas then allegedly picked up a bottle of hot sauce and threw it at the mans head, knocking him out and leaving him unresponsive. Another person tried to intervene and break up the fight, but Thomas apparently punched him in the throat, according to police.
The two victims were taken to a hospital and their conditions are unknown. Thomas has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, as well as battery.
The Palm Beach Post reports that Thomas has been arrested more than 40 times since 1997 and most of these charges were drug-related.

(18,874 posts)This sounds like a very mentally ill person. There are a lot of them living out there on the streets. Sad to say.

(18,883 posts)But I support Common Sense laws to keep hot sauce bottles out of the hands of the mentally ill.
All hot sauce purchases should require a background check and any private hot sauce transfer needs to go through a dealer.
We need to ban anything hotter than 100,000 scolvilles. That is 20 times hotter than a jalapeno and no one needs that kind of heat unless they are professional chili cookers with special training.
No one is saying you can't have a bottle or two around your house for self defense of seasoning food but they should be registered and locked up.
These common sense actions will drastically reduce burning tongues and the risk of being randomly hit in the head with a bottle.
