WASHINGTON — Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., has decided to block all of President Barack Obama’s nominees to the Department of Health and Human Services, but his opposition has nothing to do with their qualifications.

They are essentially hostages, taken in the hopes of extracting information.

Sasse has a long list of questions about the failure of health insurance co-ops in nine states, particularly CoOportunity, which insured thousands of Iowans and Nebraskans.

“Until these families are given complete answers, the Senate should not confirm any HHS nominees,” Sasse said in a Monday press release. “This isn’t a partisan crusade — frankly, Republicans and Democrats from these nine states have an opportunity to stand together and demand answers for our constituents so that this kind of failure never happens again.”
