I lived through watching a real Democratic Convention back in Chicago. Mayor Daley (sp) wanted the "regular" dems to elect, gees, was it Humphrey? But the heart of the party went to Gene McCarthy. Robt Kennedy was running too.
I remember Frank Sinatra's recording of "Chicago" being played while they showed the streets littered from protesting crowds, and boy was it a mess, after that failed convention..
It's funny. I remember the riots, but can't remember which Rep president won that year. Looked it up, it was Nixon. Very depressing.
If the party failed to show strong allegiance to either Clinton or Bernie, would a "draft" come up again? Could it, with no delegates?
Very sad day for Joe's supporters.
Time to make a donation to Bernie.

(11,417 posts)I am happy as can be. Joe's support goes to Hillary so she will remain above 50%.
1968 is nothing like today. I just got home from Vietnam in March 1968.
There was a draft on. We had seen how unrealistic it was to say we were winning the war. We had cities on fire over civil rights battles. We had spent the last ten years fighting the establishment. Students were shutting down their schools. 4 years later the Ohio National Guard killed 4 kids at Kent State.
Today is nothing like 1968 and the demonstrators and protestors then are nothing like Bernie supporters.
We took it to the streets!
We were not key board warriors.
