Really ? - Woman of the Year - gotta be someone better

[IMG][/IMG]

From a Reddit posting

"...the woman of the year is a senior citizen that spent the vast majority of her life not being a woman, killed somebody with her car, doesn't care for poor people, has had loads of cosmetic surgery not even related to a sex change, gets tons of photoshop love on her magazine covers, has a daughter that was married for less than a year and is a horrible role model for young women, and sex change aside, really needs to dress her age. Not hating on trans, but seriously, there has got to be someone better to pick for this award."

Goes on to point out that Jenner is also vocally anti-gay---

Glamor Magazine names Caitlyn Jenner as co-winner of its award "Woman of the Year"

As a critic points out, "... that by choosing Jenner as woman of the year, “Glamour endorses the idea that men are better at being women than we are.”

Is this about truth and the integrity of the award or is it about selling magazines (rhetorical question)?

Reinforcing the notion that trans women aren't "really women". I think Jenner is a horrible role model for a number of very valid reasons, but by suggesting that trans women are simply "men acting like women", the critic is denying trans women the right to proclaim their own gender. I can come up with a long list of reasons why Jenner shouldn't get the award, but the fact that she was once a man isn't one of them.

Fuck that critic.

Its the other reasons (Vehicular Manslaughter) that should have given them pause, but maybe let that new car smell wear off before you start throwing awards at her, Media Industrial Complex?

But they've got TV Shows to promote and magazines to sell. Meaningless and predictable, and not helpful for Trans people.

They're trying to convince us we don't have to look like ourselves. If we purchase the products and services they advertise, we can transform ourselves. Jenner is the ultimate proof.

There are soooooo many more deserving trans women than Jenner. This is about celebrity and buzz.

stir up controversy, and get the name of their magazine in the news. Clearly there are many, many more deserving candidates for this honor, but these are tough times for dead tree media.

They're in business to sell magazines to young women who are focused on their looks.

This will sell a lot of magazines.
