Jonah Goldberg: Carson May Be 'More Authentically African-American' Than Obama

One could argue that he’s even more authentically African-American than Barack Obama, given that Obama’s mother was white and he was raised in part by his white grandparents. In his autobiography, Obama writes at length about how he grew up outside the traditional African-American experience — in Hawaii and Indonesia — and how he consciously chose to adopt a black identity when he was in college.

Obama's lived experience has certainly been that of an African American man. It isn't something that is changed by who your parents or grandparents are. Before Dr. Ben Carson, Republicans thought President Barack Obama was too black. Now that Dr. Carson is on the scene President Obama is somehow not black enough. Before Dr. Carson stepped into politics, despite President Obama's upbringing, Republican always tried to associate President Obama with ghetto life and a ghetto upbringing. I might be wrong, but I think Dinesh D'Souza tweeted something like, "you can take the boy out of the ghetto, but you cannot take the ghetto out of the boy".
