WASHINGTON -- The four U.S. senators from Nebraska and Iowa, all Republicans, voted against the budget agreement approved in the early hours Friday. That legislation would lift the debt limit until 2017 and increase spending by about $80 billion over two years.
Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska said she understands the importance of long-term budget certainty and praised congressional leaders for their hard work on the legislation. She said the agreement includes reforms that are a good step forward.
But she also said that more needs to be done to address the national debt. And at the same time, she took issue with the measures $3 billion in cuts to crop insurance subsidies.
I am particularly concerned with the potential harm this legislation will inflict on Nebraskas economy and our agriculture community, Fischer said in a press release. Under the current terms of the legislation, ag producers would be negatively impacted by changes to the crop insurance program. They should not be targeted to bear the brunt of this agreement its a question of basic fairness.

(34,661 posts)1. Let's be clear on something,
these folks are operating in a way to get reelected next year. In the House, the Aides run the show and if you might have a issue with your District, your vote is recorded accordingly. Fischer's press release is typical CYA with the Farm Bureau and their largest campaign funding group the Farmers Insurance and Nebraska Mutual Insurance companies.

that would help lower the deficit. in fact all republicans could waive their salaries and benefits as well
