God bless those people.

(5,455 posts)I think I've seen 10-12 pit bull breeds* go through the shelter/rescue in the past year I volunteer at, none have been bad dogs and many of them have been great dogs. Two that spring to mind recently had been used as puppy mills and one of them left behind in the home when the owners were evicted.
Helping out at the shelter/rescue has been a rewarding experience, you see dogs come in for various reasons and invariably, after they get over the initial shock of being in the shelter, are always very happy to see the volunteers. Of course it also served to reinforce my already low opinion of my fellow human beings.
*"Pit Bull" is a generic term at this point, there are at least 3 separate breeds that fall into that generic term.

(22,165 posts)I was somewhat reluctant at first (my teenaged sone rescued her), but my little pitbull (Serenity) is the sweetest most loving dog I could have ever imagined. i have never regretted adopting her.

(20,228 posts)Far too often pit bulls and other "aggressive" breeds are given up because renters have to move and can't find a place that will accept PB's. That's so unfair. There are some vicious chihuahuas and some pit bulls that wouldn't hurt a fly.
