It would be largest state to have legal pot.
Polls don't look great. Tied. So it could go either way.

It'll be like what happened to beer, but a lot, lot worse, because it leaves NO room for local market participants.

(10,164 posts)Most pro-legalization folks that voted against it (myself included) did so because that measure was a complete clusterfuck. When a better version was offered, it passed fairly easily...and recreational weed became legal on Oct 1 of this year!

(10,164 posts)Mind you, I think pot prohibition's days are numbered across most of the country, and a federal de-listing will happen sooner rather than later. But there will be setbacks, for sure.

(62,444 posts)It's a great hobby, I did it when I was younger and had that kind of time on my hands.
So, gee, I guess then a law that requires all beer to be made by InBev, but you can still brew your own, is just peachy then.
No, that's bullshit is what it is.
You can grow your own tomatoes at home. Lots of people do. A fuckload more don't and/or can't. See if your lease allows indoor gardening. Ah, great, you don't have a lease, but own your own place - like a decided minority of people.
Oh, and let's not see anyone selling their tomatoes to anyone else for a dime a piece.

(42,288 posts)We did that with the casino issue and folks aren't happy with that. The weed issue was modeled after the casino structure and too many just don't want to give the backers more wealth.
I voted against Issue 3. I hope we get a better, cleaner attempt in the future.

(528 posts)It becomes very difficult to maintain quality over a large scale operation. Small growers just want a chance to compete in the high end market.

I am still shocked that California voted against it.

(2,061 posts)I think so too.
Since for a loooong time, any amount under an oz was an infraction, the equivalent of running a stop sign so maybe people are just OK with that. We'll see.

That would cut the rug out from the criminals and I'm not talking the street dealers.
Use the tax for programs to help people that want help out of addiction.

Yes, her name is really Hash.
edit: As I understand it, the problem is similar to what we had with Prop 19 in California: the way it's written tends to create an oligopoly of a few large growers.
