Man Gets Prison For Biting Dog, Popping Eye Out Of Socket

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida man has been sentenced to a year in prison for biting a small dog on the face and choking him so hard his eye popped out.

Local media reports that a Palm Beach County judge sentenced 37-year-old David Etzel on Friday. He was convicted Tuesday of felony animal cruelty.

Etzel's mother told deputies in April that her 6-foot-8-inch, 375-pound son had been drinking and was teasing her shih tzu named Cujo, prompting the dog to bite him. She said Etzel then bit the dog back.

Veterinarians were able to put Cujo's eye back in, but officials say the animal is permanently blind in that eye.

Dog should be removed from that home. Small dogs are meant to be doted upon - they have no jobs (as do 'working' or 'herding' dogs) - they are there just to entertain and to love. They are diamonds in the rough. I have three and I have migrated from having the best German Shepherd which I showed to having two pugs and a Chihuahua mix - all rescues.

If it's any consolation eye surgery has been very high tech in dogs. My pug had eye surgery last year and he has sight in both eyes. But this particular dog should be removed.

Could you please get a memo to them & inform them they are working dog's. My oldest rottie won't go outside if it even looks like rain & has to wear a life jacket to go on the porch while we're in the pool.

Their idea of work is climbing off the couch when they get busted.
