While mom loads groceries, preschooler shoots himself

While his mom loaded groceries outside a Kroger store in Troy, her curious preschooler found a 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun in the console of their Ford Mustang and shot himself in the side, police said.

Another inch or two to one side and that child could be dead — and joining the statistics of fatal firearms accidents.

Instead, "it's just a flesh wound and he's already out of surgery" at Troy-Beaumont Hospital, after the bullet exited through the rear of the child's leg, Troy Police Capt. Robert Redmond said.

Glad the child is going to be ok physically, but I would imagine that mentally, he's going to have some issues.
Mom should be charged with child endangerment and do some time in jail.
