(26,644 posts)I was censored last week for saying something dumb. It was my first hide, and it hurt, which surprised me. I thought the alert was lame, but then, I think most of them are.
In spite of it all, I'm sticking around too because I love DU, and you, Mineral Man, are one of the reasons.

(54,436 posts)Disagreement is one thing. Deliberately pitting Dems against Dems is often another level.I get the impression that the first occurs among Democrats and the second is deliberatly done by many who are not.

(40,416 posts)However, there are all too many who wish to destroy what DU is about to put forth a personal political agenda. This when the enemy agenda is not the Democratic presidential candidates, but an opposition party whose principles are against that which any of us would oppose.
Meanwhile we infight over which candidate is the most Democratic.
What a fucking useless enterprise here when so much is at stake.
What really gets me are all the useless personal attacks. Pathetic!
MineralMan
(146,325 posts)that they feel like anything not absolutely positive said about their favorite is a personal affront. That's the reason for many of the personal attacks, I think. It's a mistake to invest 100% in any candidate. Each of us is just a single voter, and the mass of voters may decided differently than we thing they should.
As you say, the real enemy is the Republican Party. We should never forget that.
longship
(40,416 posts)Because the GOP is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.
My best to you, MM.

(146,325 posts)and campaign for whoever is the Democratic nominee. I keep the primary goal in mind throughout the entire process.
Given the limitations of the office of President, any of the three current primary candidates would do almost the exact same things while in office. We should pay far more attention to legislative races. They are what really matters.
longship
(40,416 posts)Both of which are subject to redistricting biases.
I fear that is what all the presidential primary ideologues do not understand. They apparently think that one turns a party around from the top, from the Oval Office. Well, I would think the Obama administration put that argument to bed. Apparently not.
If one wants a more liberal, progressive, socialist Democratic Party (you choose) it has to be done from the bottom up, not the top down. The latter never, ever works. That is what FDR understood that today's Dems do not. And by the way, both Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson understood it way back in the late 70's, maybe before. I watched it happen, as I imagine you did as well.
Meanwhile, DU focuses on presidential elections as if it were the only ball game.
Hint to DUers: If we lose the White House in 2016, the GOP will have everything. The state legislatures, the governorships, the US House, maybe the US Senate, too. And by the way, SCOTUS hangs by a thin thread which will break under a GOP Oval Office.
In other words, we lose everything. And heaven only knows where that takes us. Certainly no where good.
United we win; divided we fail.
And god damn it, support your local Democratic candidates, and help to get out the vote. It is all about getting out the vote. That is how Democrats win. And if one wants to change the Democratic Party, run for delegate! And get like minded people to do so as well. But don't expect to turn the SS Titanic on a dime. If one wants to change the direction of the party, it is not going to happen solely from the White House.
Love ya, MM.

(146,325 posts)alerts. I only see jury results, though, in the rare instance that a post of mine is hidden, or when someone posts the results. I suppose there are far more alerts than I know about, though. I take any hidden post as a personal failure on my part, and always try to avoid posting anything that a jury might hide.

(2,382 posts)... but I have come to have great respect and affection for many DUers, and for the site in general.
I do, however, have serious issues with those who bait others with malicious intent solely for the purpose of getting them hidden, suspended or banned, as I have seen here recently. I have ZERO respect, and even less affection for such people. That kind of malice has no place in this world, let alone among people who ostensibly share common purpose.
Agree to disagree on certain topics, and regarding one's chosen candidate; ain't nobody gonna change nobody's mind, so let it go. We have a common adversary, and their malevolence is growing exponentially. We cannot afford to waste our energy squabbling amongst ourselves; it is a weakness they have exploited more than once, and it is a hard lesson we should have learned by now.
Thus endeth tonight's rant.

(41,999 posts)I have to admit I get frustrated, but I always check in don't I?
It's like football for me. I am NOT a football fan--anathema in Seattle these days--yet my Dad played a little semi-pro as well as for the army in his youth so I grew up knowing the game. Given the chance, I will explain why I don't like football in detail. Great detail.
Yet put me in front of a game on TV, l am mesmerized and involved and yelling at the refs--who can't, of course, actually hear me, just like everyone else who *is* a football fan. One of these days I'm gonna have to stop saying I don't like it.
