A man involved in an exchange of fire with police from inside a birth control clinic in the US city of Colorado Springs is in custody, the mayor says.

Mayor John Suthers said the situation at the Planned Parenthood clinic had been resolved.

At least 11 people, five of them police officers, were wounded in the shooting.

A number of people were trapped inside the clinic while the stand-off with police took place. Authorities say the motive for the incident is unclear.
