My new idea to reduce gun violence

I know readers will consider this a joke, but please consider this seriously.

Every person convicted of gun violence will have their full frontal nude photos publicly posted online and in other media.

This will be in addition to any criminal sentence, and will apply posthumously to dead killers.

Think about it. We are unable to control the weapons. In addition to 300 million plus firearms already in circulation, there is no political will to restrict gun ownership more than we already do. There is also no lawful way to predict and prevent the violence before it happens.

But we can publicly emasculate these felons. The classic Freudian model is that the gun is a substitute or enhancement of male genitalia in the minds of the owner. Whether you agree with this or not, gun violence is a testosterone fueled phenomena, and the perpetrator wants nothing more than to be viewed publicly as objects of fear, respect and manliness. By publishing photos of their shortcomings, we as a society make them instead an object of ridicule and derision. Cruel and unusual? Less so than their crimes.

And in the unlikely event that a criminal is hung like Dillinger, we Photoshop the pics so they all look like hamsters.

By removing their incentive to be known as fearsome manly figures, I predict a drop in gun violence.

Life in jail is no impediment but a nude pic of them will be?

This joint could use some levity.

And suddenly I'm in the mood to watch a Warren Oates film.

Further disrespect and humiliation can be a powerful and fitting deterrent.

I am sure some might be deterred by the humiliation but I would be willing to bet most lethal violence is done in the heat of the moment where consequences aren't much of a consideration no matter what they are.

But if we go around measuring penis size, I bet science will show it has little to do with character.
