I don't care if you own guns, or even support the 2nd Amendment

If you support the NRA, or feel the need to show up in any thread calling them out as the greedy murderous fucking bastards they are with your snarky bullshit tacitly defending them......you do not belong on Democratic Underground.

They are a conservative lobbying group interested in two things. More guns for more money, and getting rid of every Liberal to moderate Democrat. We might as well permit people to defend the Kochs and Grover Norquist at that point.

I know responsible gun owners. My best friend is a sportsman who lobbies at the state house for environmentalally responsible hunting and preservation. He will never join the NRA and he rejects any and all "assistance" they have ever offered. As he says, "they might as well be cancer".

The NRA is a sick cult who hate liberals, and anyone who feels the need to jump in to defend them here should get the fuck out.

Supporting more gunz and candidates who clear the way for more gunz, is not much different from being an NRA member.

The VAST majority of gun owners (and non-gun owners who support the RKBA) are not members of the NRA, including most Democrats, particularly here on DU.

Many need to understand and accept that people, like your friend and virtually everyone on DU, can easily support a wide range of gun rights, all without any connection with, no less support of, the NRA. To those who blindly equate support for gun rights with uncritical support for the NRA, all you accomplish is alienating and often insulting millions of Americans, many of who are loyal voting Democrats. This is a very poor electoral strategy.

If you want to eliminate the NRA's overwhelming support for Republicans, gun control needs to end as a partisan issue largely supported by many Democrats or Republicans (and a great many independents) must be convinced to support pervasive and strict gun control. Neither is likely to happen any time soon.

Ironically, when the President and Clinton, the leading presidential contender, claim to support Australian-style gun control (i.e., confiscation or "involuntary buyback&quot and call-out the NRA by name, all that generally happens is that the NRA benefits from a membership and fundraising windfall, as gun sellers nationwide see stock virtually fly off the shelves. Again, making the NRA the center of gun control advocacy makes them more powerful, all without any legislative or judicial accomplishments.
