This Is the Longest Buffalo Has Gone Without Measurable Snow

Any conversation that includes Buffalo and the weather has to involve snow.

Snow is to Buffalo what politics are to Washington, movies are to Hollywood and money is to New York.

This year is no exception. That isn’t because snow has made the city a wind-swept tundra but because not enough has fallen to measure. At least, that’s true at the airport, where the western New York city’s weather is officially observed and its records are set.

This is longest Buffalo has gone without measurable snow -- considered to be 0.1 inch (0.25 centimeter) -- since record-keeping began in 1899.

With little snow in the forecast and mild air set to flood across much of the eastern U.S. well into December, there probably won’t be any need for a measuring stick any time soon.
