Federal judge rules Muslim-free zone at Florida gun store fails to harm Muslims

A federal judge has dismissed a complaint filed by a Muslim advocacy organization claiming that an Inverness gun shop violated the Civil Rights Act by declaring itself a "Muslim-free zone".

The suit had demanded an injunction against Florida Gun Supply to prohibit it from discriminating against Muslims and others on the basis of religion. The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) filed the suit against Florida Gun Supply in July after the store's owner Andy Hallinan enacted a Muslim-free zone....

CAIR's Florida Executive Director Hassan Shibly said, "The judge simply said that we didn't have standing because nobody from our organization actually went and got service denied...If somebody from the Muslim community were to go and get a denial of service, then Andy will be liable". That could well bring the case back to court.

The store is now offering a "MFZ" (Muslim Free Zone) bumper sticker and shooting targets showing a skeleton wearing a white robe, beard and turban.

In the early 80s I asked my grandmother's boss what the numbers tattooed on his arm meant. I learned from a first hand source exactly what humans are capable of. I wonder how sad he would be were he alive today.

PS- he was a strong liberal, but I think most criminal defense lawyers are (or were, at the time, at least)

8. That's merely a technical question of standing.

A proper plaintiff has to have been damaged by the action of the defendant forming the gravamen of the action. If no identifiable individual has been harmed/had their rights invaded there's no grounds for a lawsuit.

Find a person who is booted out of the place and then you have standing.

Nothing unusual here in the least.

Then again, a Muslim would first have to actually be denied service at the store.

This store owner sounds like a wimp. Most likely he wouldn't make good on his big bad bigotry when taken to task.

Maybe I'll take my muslim father in law down there. We're firearms enthusiasts.
