The probe is now a federal terrorism investigation led by the FBI.
The investigation has uncovered evidence of radicalization of the killers and potential inspiration by foreign terrorist organizations.
Agents are sifting through a large volume of electronic evidence, much of which the shooters tried to destroy and conceal from us.
There is no evidence that the killers are part of an organized larger terrorist group, or that they form part of a terrorist cell.
The couple had not previously been known to the FBI.

A man who has been working in the area said he noticed a half-dozen Middle Eastern men in the area in recent weeks, but decided not to report anything since he did not wish to racially profile those people.
We sat around lunch thinking, What were they doing around the neighborhood?' he said. Wed see them leave where theyre raiding the apartment.

All the associates of a mass-shooter will get investigated, but I expect a fair number of innocent people.

I hope you're correct that the FBI checks out everyone they knew. Their performance so far is not inspiring confidence, with the press allowed into the apartment.

If your fear was eastern Europeans and your search image had you noticing eastern European sorts of people, stocky, jowly and with bushy eyebrows who otherwise keep to themselves... I'm sure you'd be noticing us.
People find what they look for. Sometimes because they see what they want to see, and sometimes because they interpret what they want from what they want to see.
It's a shaky business, and I'm mostly skeptical and quite cynical about xenophobic trends, even though once in a while when you think a foreigner is up to no good, they are.
But then much of the time, the nativists who are -really- dangerous are the ones pointing fingers and diverting attention from an internal problem.
