But over 300 views of this post about the victims....... 19 responses. WTF ?????!!!!!

(33,688 posts)are astonishing and profoundly disheartening.
Sam Harris was and is right and that's all there is to it. While any religion or belief system can and will be used to justify barbarism, the facts of the modern world show that over the last few decades only one is consistently (NB, I said consistently, NOT exclusively) the source of the most barbaric and inhuman outrages imaginable. Too many people would rather be "politically correct" than face the truth.
Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities. - Voltaire
Of all human inventions, it is beyond any rational question that religion is the worst, most useless and most destructive.
clarice
(5,504 posts)Anyone who loudly and consistently makes apologies/excuses for this behavior may not simply
trying to be "politically correct", But may have a totally different agenda than most Americans do.
hifiguy
(33,688 posts)because many of us on the left are always ready to stand up for a perceived underdog. In most cases that is admirable, even morally necessary; in this case it's like deliberately putting out one eye and wearing a patch over the other. It's a conditioned reflex based in some sort of senseless and cause-free guilt. A dispassionate reflection on the assembled facts show it to be a grievously wrongheaded response.
But then I'm on the autism spectrum and my mind works like Data's or Spock's. Logic and nothing but.

Michael Raymond Wetzel, left rear, is seen with his family in this undated, family handout photo. Wetzel was one of 14 killed Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 in a commando-style assault on a holiday party in San Bernardino, Calif. (Wetzel Family via AP)
Most of the 14 people killed at a holiday banquet in San Bernardino County, California, worked in the same county public health department as the man who showed up with his wife and sprayed the hall with gunfire.
An official list of the dead was released Thursday, and families, friends and co-workers came forward to share some of their stories...
The bigots and gun nutz of our country should be bombarded with the profiles of these tragically innocent people.

(1,475 posts)with both you, Clarice and, sadly, so few others on DU. I cannot believe all the irrelevant minutia that is being posted here at a time when innocent people have been annihilated by those who exploit our way of life in their malevolent efforts to destroy us. I don't give a flying shit about all the back and forth intellectualizing that is being posted. The fact of the matter is that people who gathered together in the spirit of camaraderie were slaughtered by those whose ideology is anathema to our way of life.

(63,221 posts)It gets a little heated around here at times, especially with these types of issues. However we need more caring people like you to stick around.

Would they be better off having suffered a higher class, more all American sort of slaughter?
Our "way of life" (I'm assuming you mean unrestrained gun ownership) leaves us wide open for exploitation by terrorists, as demonstrated by two incidents of domestic terrorism in less than a week.
Maybe some aspects of our way of life need to be reexamined.
cornball 24
(1,475 posts)do not assume. I am disgusted by the lack of background checks and all things responsible for the availability of guns to ANY person(s) whose intention is to use said guns for the commitment of evil acts. I am appalled by the power of the NRA and its lack of regard for regulation of firearms. To "assume" that my reference to "our way of life" has anything at all to do with guns is a very subjective interpretation on your part. FYI, I refer to the MANY freedoms available here in America, one of them being your right to reply to my post with your "would you be happier if they'd been slaughtered..." balderdash!

(5,504 posts)My op was directed at liberals/repubs/moderates/libertarians/media etc.
I am just sick of the attention, apologizing, rationalizing, nit picking that goes on
concerning the "politicizing" that always happens after a tragic event like this (from ALL sides)
So very little concern is paid to the actual VICTIMS of these crimes. I was just much more
frustrated at the liberal base because we pride ourselves on caring and compassion. You have to admit,
over 1200 views, and barely 30 legitimate replies expressing remorse for the victims is pretty lame.

(63,212 posts)Some see anti-Muslim sentiment as an exacerbating factor that further escalates tensions in an unhelpful way, potentially worsening the overall crisis.
Others see the number of deaths inflicted by terrorists and weigh these against the number of civilians we've murdered with firebombs and drone strikes.
Others can crunch the numbers and see the rates of gun-inflicted homicide as an intolerable obscenity, demanding a response beyond prayers or mourning for this dozen or that dozen victims.
Ultimately, it's up to the individual to find an appropriate response, even if it's an evolutionary process that doesn't satisfy others' sensibilities.
