I just saw on the CBS Evening News that the grandma hasn't been seen... since the attack?... I don't know if I heard that right.
I thought the baby was left with the grandmother.
Anyone know what that's about?... Did I just imagine what I thought I just heard?...that the grandmother is missing?

(3,182 posts)Seriously, you don't think some crazed freeper would happily blow her AND THE BABY to bits if they were given the opportunity?

(154,021 posts)she might be missing from media... but that would be speculating on my part. Nor would I blame her. She lost a son, a daughter in law, they took the kid, they kept her isolated and if you take the two lawyers version of events was threatened if the two daughters and other son did not come.

(8,028 posts)...that so many of the grandmother's personal effects, like IDs and such, were left out in the open for the media vampires to rifle through while they were ravenously ransacking the apartment.
Seriously, that apartment fiasco was one of the most uncomfortable media moments I've seen since OJ 'fled,' going the speed limit in a white Bronco.

(154,021 posts)but not necessarily Illegal. Both CNN and MSNBC have been taken apart over it.
One of the problems is... having been in media scrums, the pressure is there to "scoop" each other. A radio guy, or me, have the time to use editorial discretion. the we need to do it NOW types... at times forget about that, and should have been at the very least on a minute delay.
Me... I think I would have had an issue going in. but I know that legally they were invited by the landlord, which gets into the permissions and rights of tenants vs rights of renters And it was left there by the FBI not to be rifled with, but for her to come home and get her stuff and find it.
They also left a list of stuff they took.
This should be in every journalism class as to the at times something might be legal, but not necessarily ethical. Just because you can, does not mean you should. And I think they are in the clear legally. Hubby thinks it is a tad shadier because of the grandmother. Under CA law, 30 days as resident, even if you are not in the lease... you have the rights of a renter. But if anybody opened a whoop ass of liability is the property owner.

I'm just amazed that MSNBC effectively doxxed the grandmother on live television with shots of her personal items, driver's license and social security card.
Here's the DL with strategically placed blurring:
I'm just seriously wondering WHERE she is and why she hadn't retrieved her personal items before the media vulture, carny sideshow was unleashed... I wonder why CBS Evening News said that she is missing...
I hope she's not really missing; or if she's missing, I hope that it is of her own doing.

(154,021 posts)in the recent past we have been covering a lot of renter issues, and slum lords.
Every time before we do an interview, we explain to tenants that there might be consequences, like not renewal of leases. Do no harm. We have had a few people cancel these, sometimes as I am on the freeway on the way, one they reached an agreement with the owner without us showing up.
One we did the story... heartbreaking as hell... but the owner took care of the issues.
So this is why I think this should be in every Journalism 101 class, not even higher level.

Baby is now in social services care, I believe.

(3,212 posts)That lawyer seems to be doing nothing for the family. He's certainly not gaining much sympathy for them; in fact, I think he's doing just the opposite.
