Why I bought a star.

I do not have many posts but have been poking around in DU for years. My sister, DUer SmileyRose joined back when it was WhistleAss vs Al Gore. She eventually got terminal and asked me to keep an eye on the site for her. She love you guys.

Immediate I saw why. Despite the turmoil lately and the loss of some familiar names, I think this website has a valuable roll to play in my life. I've done everything from kill time, to play fight, to roll eyes at the games others play, to get a real education on issues or to simply open my mind to different viewpoints.

At the end of the day I am grateful to Skinner and Elad and Earl G and whoever else is turning the knobs behind the curtain for this platform. Also the DU community for everything you've given to me and to my sister before me.

And it did not escape my notice that I never saw that DU robot once during this last debate / DNC fiasco thingy. The investment in new hardware obviously paid off. Wish I could have given more to the cause.....

Given the attitudes of certain DUers, I'm likely to be picking one up soon.

I very seriously doubt that I'll be renewing my star after nine or ten years. I have no problem if the owners/administrators have their own political preferences, they are human beings just like the rest of us. But the perception that they are administering the site according to their own biases and applying different standards to members based on which candidate they support is real and it is widespread. So I'll probably be redirecting any contributions I made to DU, directly to the Bernie Sanders campaign.

and I have bought one for years.

I think there are many freepers and people at CU who would like to see this site fail. They are probably jumping for joy when they see the ruin that this primary is creating, and the broken jury system.

I think all this will pass. I will probably continue to come here, and to pay my way. I learn here, in spite of the recent turmoil.

ah, shit - the only - places that I go for whatever I need; support, kindred souls, whatever.

Once or twice as finances have been problematic, I occasionally will back down, but when I do, this is inevitably one of the first things I try to restore.

no more. Nope, not becuase of the bans directed at fans of a certain campaign. They are annoying as hell, but DU is DU and the seasonal bans are regular problems that go with the yuletide and all that. Nope not that at all. The persistent bullying that is allowed.

Recently that has stopped, but that has not one iota to do with management, In fact, I suspect they approve of it, just like they prefer to ban trouble makers. It is part of the site management. Enjoy your star. I enjoy my add blocker. That one was free. Though I did donate to the code writer.
