I do believe I perceive a threat to me & others from neo-Confederate mad about the flag coming down.

I weighed in on the ridiculous notion that SC should spend eleventy billion dollars to display the flag that was removed. It was in the comment section of The State paper.
Carl weighed in on my comment. Here is the exchange:
My original comment:
This is too damn much. With all the problems in SC, spending this much money is absurd. There are ways to display the flag that don't cost this much. This is spite and malice because the flag was removed.
Carl
Trust me when I say that those who cheered that flag's removal have no idea just what they did - aside from accepting a pro-white supremacist viewpoint that legitimate Confederate heritage defenders rejects.
And don't presume that lowering one flag at a 30 foot pole behind a monument will mean the end of a permanent display of the flag flying over Columbia....you'll know what I mean by next summer.
My reply:
Listen Stonewall, the war is over. The flag is a historic relic that does not represent all of SC.Nobody is telling you that you can't display it. They are saying that on state grounds that belong to everyone, it should not be flown as a symbol for the state. I have several ancestors that died for the Confederacy. I have no desire to canonize them.
As far as white supremacy, you can deny it all you want. However, it is used as a symbol for that movement. You may not think so but that is a fact.
As far as your veiled staement about 'you'll know what I mean' about some coming event, are you gonna burn the city again? Graffiti? Tantrums? A 1000 ft flagpole flying the flag? The mind reels.
When the war was over, Robert E.Lee said this ""Abandon your animosities and make your sons Americans."
He didn't say nurse your grievances and never stop fighting. I'll defer to him.

So, I believe that is a threat of some action. I'm sure my name zoomed to the top of whatever list they keep. Meh. Bullies and cowards.

"the darkies" are going to take over and "rape and pillage all the white women". It is always about people of color can not help themselves. That it in "their nature" to do that.

Hell we have even heard similar things said this campaign season.

People of like mind are working on a plan for a giant flag and pole adjacent to the statehouse on private land.

What is it about so many people on this board that they think people are always threatening them?

I know these people and some of them are batshit crazy. So pardon me for paying attention.
Get over it and trust that we know what we are talking about.

associated with it for decades? The comment could be perceived one way as a veiled threat. But that is probably not the likely meaning behind the statement.

A friend sent a LTE with a liberal, pro-Democratic position. He received ugly messages on his landline, stopping just short of death threats, for several weeks. RWers love to bully and intimidate Liberals.

I used to work for a newspaper in Montana. When a family of white supremacists moved into town, neighbors organized a march to let the family know it wasn't welcome. The paper covered the march, of course, but the published story included the reporter's byline.

BIG mistake.

Shortly afterward, photos of the reporter and contact information started showing up on white supremacist / neo-Nazi websites. Scary sh*t.

An aside: Two young girls in that family sang duets that had some of the most despicable lyrics ever to come out of youngsters' mouths. Truly sad. The girls called themselves Prussian Blue, and I'm pretty sure you can find them on YouTube.

I'd heard of Prussian Blue and I was pretty sure they'd abandoned white nationalist politics. From the Wikipedia article about the group:

Prussian Blue was an American white nationalist pop pre-teen duo formed in early 2003 by April Gaede, mother of Lynx Vaughan Gaede[1] and Lamb Lennon Gaede,[2] fraternal twins born on June 30, 1992, in Bakersfield, California.[3] The twins referred to the Holocaust as a myth[4] and their group was described as racist and white supremacist in nature.[5][6]

Lynx and Lamb were about 14 when they decided that they wanted to cease touring. In 2011, in an interview with The Daily, the twins renounced their previous politics.[7] Lamb was quoted saying, “I’m not a white nationalist anymore. My sister and I are pretty liberal now.”

The article also discusses the family's experiences in Montana, where they moved because the mother decided that Bakersfield was "not white enough."
