so the day before Christmas Eve, I shut my wedding ring finger in the sliding door of my closet

badly mangled the ring guard. My solitaire is fine but the ring guard is mashed. My brother in law tried to round it out so it wasn't grinding into my finger and it helped some but it is still irritating my finger. I am afraid I am going to have to have it cut off.

Will a jeweler repair shop cut it off because I can't get it off.

I have been putting cortisone cream on and around the ring hoping to help keep the irritation down.

I HATE to have to have it cut off but I don't know of any other solution.

it is the type that is two sides and the solitaire fits in between. All together it looks like three rings but it is only two.

last night it was feeling better like I could live with it but I must have slept on my hand because today I woke up and my hand was a little numb and had the tingly feeling like it went to sleep.

We are probably going to be snowed in for a few days so if I can't get it off by say Wed. I will have to do something.

so it looks good as new. You might also try spraying Windex on your finger and the ring to make it slip off (a jeweler showed me this trick). Windex is really slippery and works better than soap.

I think the ring is mangled to badly.

I am pretty sure it will have to be cut off. That makes me sad.

I have been married for 26 years and the only time my rings have been off were the times I was in the hospital. The rings are sacred to me...a symbol. I HATE that this has happened.

You've illustrated why 😊 I cook, garden, etc and I don't want them damaged. I've had too many extreme finger/hand incidents to want to risk my rings.

A jeweler can not only cut the guard off but repair them as well. It sounds like a fairly simple repair, too: solder the cut, re-round the bands and buff out the scuffs and dents on a wheel. If your solitaire needs to be cut as well, don't worry; soldering the cut is very simple and the joins on all the rings won't be noticeable. It'll be like having them sized, only they'll be the same size.

ETA: have the jeweler check the prongs on the solitaire while you're there. If you wear the ring constantly, they may be in need of tightening or retipping. Losing your stone is something you want to avoid!

Good luck. So sorry to hear of this.

Hoping they can just cut the guards. The tool won't cut your finger but it does involve inserting the metal part between the guard and your finger.

Better to go soon as possible btw.

Yes. It's on the list. Spray on finger, slide ring off. Wash hands right away.

wd40 has about 2000 uses. It's amazing stuff. Gets dog poop off your trainers..

but now I could care less.

shudda had removed them right after the accident of hitting my hand on the side of my dtr's pool. But I didn't and of course swelling got them there and I had to go to the Martha's Vineyard Hospital's ER. Nobody there so I didn't feel guilty. They say tney mostly get sports accidents and lots of accidents involving alcohol. Mine wasn't in that category, glad to say, but that's interesting...

Just burned my left thumb in a cooking accident but got a cube of ice on it asap. kept it on for over an hour. still looks red and is painful but no swelling and tha's good. it's just red and it hurts...

If it's gold. Platinum runs a few bucks more because it's a bitch and half to work with, but I'd be surprised if cutting/rejoining all rings (if the solitaire has to come off, too) runs more than $50.00.

....above all keep an eye on that finger. You don't want to lose a finger, or the use of one because of nerve or circulation damage.

Rings can do terrible damage if you fall and they get caught on something.

Good luck

Soak your finger for 1 minute or so. Then take a swig of bourbon.
Put your finger back in the glass and soak it for another minute or so. Tale another swig of bourbon.
Repeat this process until the bourbon is gone.
Open the front door.
Tie one end of a string around the ring and the other end around an open door knob.
Kick the hell out of the door to slam it shut.
You won't feel a thing.

we are supposed to get snow/ice tonight. I hope it isn't bad enough to stop me from going either to the jewelers or to the ER . Either way, it has to come off tomorrow. I have been icing my finger off and on today.

I think I made it worse trying to get it off last night. It feels more swollen today. Maybe it is just my inner worry but it seems a little worse.
