Infamous affluenza teenager Ethan Couch and his mother have been found in Mexico, according to authorities.
He was reportedly found near the popular beach resort Puerto Vallarta by Mexican authorities Monday afternoon. CNN was the first to report the arrest of the wanted teen.
Tarrant County officials said they hadn't been informed of arrests by Mexican officials, but were checking with the US Marshals for more information.
Couch, who killed four people while driving drunk in 2013, and his mother Tonya went missing about two weeks ago. Couch missed an appointment with his probation officer, leading authorities to believe he was on the run from law enforcement and possibly fled the country.

Now she will probably have to do some time, too.
At least one can hope.

(62,276 posts)The stupidity in this case is that he bailed because of a video that got out with him partying in a drinking game. Obviously he should not be violating his probation by being around alcohol, but the video does not prove he was drunk or anything like that, his lawyers could've easily gotten him off. Again.
As it stands now he's looking at the full 10 year probation being served in jail.

(5,128 posts)The experts in disappearing predicted this, in this exact time frame. I hope it is true. Time for Ethan to be held accountable! Along with mama and papa.
I just have to add, they say he killed 4 people. Ethan really killed one more you rarely hear of. One of the young men thrown from the bed of his truck can't speak or move. His family one of first the Couch's settled with. Very sad.

Is this family connected? I know they have money, but are they really that wealthy. When they opened to books for the fee for his treatment it did not appear they were extremely wealthy (can't remember the details). I do remember he did not go to the Country Club treatment facility (which is what they told the judge during sentencing), but to a state facility which the parents paid a sliding scale amount for (far below the actual cost).

(1,958 posts)Is the gist of this story that this kid went on a holiday to Mexico with his family, even though he had regular meetings with a probation officer and was not supposed to leave that jurisdiction without permission?
The sense of self-importance with this family is not surprising but it is annoying.

(26,582 posts)Really, reading the article would bring you up to speed.
He was being investigated already for a probation violation. He then missed a probation meeting. When they went to his mother's house where he was living it was empty.

(1,958 posts)He should have followed his probation guidelines. He was given a gift, but probably did not recognize it that way because of his family. It appears his mother helped him to flee. What were they thinking, that he could live in Mexico until the statute of limitations expired? Obviously, they have more money than brains. They had a clever attorney and a sympithetic judicial system. It will be interesting to see what happens.
