Quite simply because the Bundy bullshit had zero consequences. One of the militia "Commanders" from the ranch lives in my hometown. Do you want to know what he did last summer when he should have been hiding from the law??? He was printing up yard signs and running for "Constitutional Sheriff".
These guys are armed lunatics who will continue to push until they either collapse the Federal government (not likely), Kill someone (increasingly likely), or are treated by the legal system as the domestic terrorists they are. I know which I vote for.

(32,324 posts)I know this one RW radio station outside of Sacramento had this caller talking about how, as a "rural guardian" and neighbor hood, self appointed "watch" leader, he had had a great deal of difficulty getting some "thuggy" type of person to offer up their ID to him.
And the radio announcer quoted the law, statint that no civilian has the right to demand another's ID, but you could tell from the compassion dripping from the Talking Head's voice that he wished things were different!

(36,392 posts)have been dealt with harshly. Bullies and terrorists should never be allowed to set the terms. They just keep escalating until someone hits back. This doj treats marijuana growers like deadly criminals, and lets these guys do whatever they want.

(8,976 posts)My local loon-Jerry Delemus brags on how he was the one who sent Jerad and Amanda Miller away from the Bundy Ranch. He does not brag so much on how he got rid of them by arranging for "several hundred dollars" in travel money which carried them to Las Vegas where they killed two police officers...

(34,661 posts)Our new Sheriff vowed to finish the Bundy Clan issue, and it has been year, and nothing. All this has emboldened the Tea Party to f---up our state. There seems to be this don't touch these people cause the Church will get all pissed and not support our Candidates. Did find out our local BLM has been financially whacked, and enforcement has been cut.

(2,440 posts)All I could tell from other sites is that they will be there for "as long as it takes", whatever that means? They do not have hostages. Why not let them stay until they are out of water and food. Shut off the electric, cut the propane/gas, and cut access to water. Cut off their buddies from supplying them and sit and wait? Why give them more press - it just fees their fanaticism?

(8,976 posts)I have a REAL fucking problem that the Federal government has as yet caused no consequences for those who engaged in the Bundy ranch fiasco.

(10,164 posts)The Bundy family and their supporters were emboldened by how things turned out previously. Had that not been the case, no way they woudl have barged in, unwanted, and started screwing up a situation that was about to be resolved peacefully. To the best of my knowledge, the Hammons still intend to surrender themselves on Monday.

(6,133 posts)The Supreme Court, allowing them guns unlimited, the court deciding race no longer matters, the congressional republicans backing racist gun nuts to win seats, who willingly play this dangerous game to retain power don't really care about consequences.
I've heard these racist where I work. Their minds are so far twisted from anything I heard in decades past. I am more scared of them than Muslim extremist, because they are close, with guns and looking for a reason to use them.
It is remarkable that the justices who interpreted the 2nd amendment like they did creating a completely safe guns everywhere environment, put such a great barrier around their court.

Attempting to use the threat of violence to accomplish political goals is the very definition of terrorism.

(51,076 posts)about 20 years ago we had a bunch of weirdo's like this up on one of our refuges, (Spavinaw game refuge,) close to me here. Running around playing soldier out in the woods but when winter came they left to never return, as far as I know that is. I kind of remember that our game warden had something to do with their leaving too, come to think of it. He's a take no prisoners type guy that won't put up with bullshit from anyone

(8,976 posts)How'd that work out? The lack of Federal action at the Bundy ranch is easily explained as "avoiding a massacre" but the continued lack of consequences is, frankly, bullshit. When you routinely shoot unarmed blacks in the street you can only play the humanitarian card so far.

(51,076 posts)Here they weren't doing anything except freaking people out when they'd come across them out in the woods but they were dealt with in a manner that they got the picture and moved on. Like I said our game warden is not some one who suffers fools gladly. He's a get right in your face type guy. Fearless as they come, just what that position requires.

I totally agree with you. The Federal Government needs to treat them like domestic terrorists. If they are allowed to continue to get away with these sorts of stunts, then they will become more and more dangerous.
