Oregon militants keeping women and children around at standoff despite threats to kill or be killed

The militants occupying an Oregon nature preserve are apparently using women and children as human shields.

Television crews and newspaper photographers have shown women and children visiting the Malheur National Wildlife Reserve, where at least two dozen self-described militiamen have brought their guns and demanded the release of two ranchers sentenced in an arson case.

The militants are also demanding that the Bureau of Land Management turn over the nature preserve to local authorities for private use.

Federal authorities, however, have said they intend to flush out the armed militants by shutting off utility service to the visitors center they took over Saturday evening following a demonstration.

I'll sure be glad when this is over especially if the reports are correct that there will be charges and arrest coming.

I have a couple nieces who live in Willamina. The last message I got from one was that she's sick right now so I've not bothered her to find out what the people around her think of these freeloaders. My nieces are girls I grew up with and it worries me that they might get caught up in some of this nuttiness. They're both pretty smart and accomplished ladies so I'm not too worried, meaning that they won't be doing anything stupid. Lived here all their lives

10. Actually I think most of the women and children have gone home. Even most of the locals who

had some sympathy for these idiots have gone home. The Hammonds want nothing to do with them. The Church has disavowed their actions. It looks like it's gonna come down to a few 15-20 nut cases as holdouts. Authorities have left the roads open so people can leave if they want to and many have. The locals are not bringing in much in the way of supplies because they mostly don't want to be associated with these guys. Hopefully, it will be over soon. If not, I think they will just sit there and freeze their bums off.

In the meantime, I wish the Feds would go down and start rounding up the Bundy cattle for the back taxes and back grazing fees while no one is minding the store. Now that would be a joy to behold.
