Gary Johnson Will Seek White House as Libertarian
The former New Mexico governor sought the Republican presidential
nomination in 2012 before mounting a third-party bid.
By Ben Brody
January 6, 2016 1:58 PM EST
Gary Johnson, the former New Mexico governor who ran for president as a long-shot Libertarian Party candidate in 2012, said Wednesday he would once again seek the White House.
I want to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for president, Johnson said on Fox Business.
Johnson, 63, had sought the Republican nomination before pursuing a third-party bid in 2012. He received just under 1 percent of the national popular vote in that general election. He served as governor from 1995 to 2003.
Johnson said it was conventional wisdom that his run could damage Republicans by pulling voters away from the party, but that someone who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal like him would draw from both parties.

a few months ago talking about running for president on the libertarian ticket. His plan was to get the nomination, but not join the party.

Or did he officially become a Democrat.
Anyways Nader did the same thing when he ran for president so it's not like it is unheard of.

on his threat to go off on his own. No matter what, there will be someone there to split the vote. Not that there should be any chance whatsoever, short of malfeasance (not out the question, by a long shot), that the Republicans will win the general. This is truly their death knell. They will be licking their wounds for a long time to come after 16.
