Washington state to review personal data under new cybersecurity office

I find this fascinating and terrifying all at once. This could go really really well, or very poorly... I'll be keeping an eye on how Washington does with this...and may be hoping it spreads to many other states.

The Office of Privacy and Data Protection plans to conduct annual reviews of personal data collected by state agencies, and it promises privacy measures such as limiting the sale of personal information to third parties and "monitoring" complaints about the state's collection of personal data.

I can see no way whatsoever that this could be used to a person's detriment. Why, only an insane conspiracy theorist would even countenance the possibility of such an occurrence!

I mean, I know when I think of safety, the DHS with its whip-sharp agents and razor-smooth performance is the first thing that comes to mind!
