(3,447 posts)Rather, their 'new methods' of fighting will inform a whole new generation of fighters. SA is mainly older-style fighting. A little help to Yemen could clean their clock in short order, but you know we'll never do that.
Iran isn't our enemy, realistically. They may be Israel's enemy, but so long as they're not killing each other, that isn't our problem. Yes, they do have some terror cells, but much like SA, it's more older-style stuff. ISIS is informed.
As I see it, there are currently two powerful laws fighting for dominance. Law 1: Fourth generational warfare is the most powerful we've ever known. And Law 2: Fourth generational warfare is only good until someone decides to try third. Meaning that social media is all-powerful until the weapons come out. But ISIS is trying to blend those into a superlaw, and that's something we're not equipped to deal with, should it actually become even remotely powerful.

(22,000 posts)Syria is a mess because there are so many different parties involved, but ISIS is the one going around blowing things up.

(1,967 posts)I am worried about the safety of citizens most of all. I realize in academic circles "the West" is a Euphemism for the power elite, not ordinary people.

(2,943 posts)I believe it is climate change. If we can deal with that, then we can deal with these people with a self serving power agenda.
That said, Saudi Arabia does throw money around just enough to keep others in the area from moving forward in a positive direction. Saudi Arabia is the worst at mucking up the works and needs to be called upon it. They have been caught too many times by those paying attention. Then again if we deal with climate change in a positive direction, Saudi Arabia will not have the money or the power to throw around.
