  • Succeeded to the presidency on the death of President Zachary Taylor in 1850.
  • Signed the Compromise of 1850 into law
    • Good News:Civil War postponed for ten years and California joined the Union as a free state
    • Bad News: Fugitive Slave Acted enacted.
  • Last member of the Whig Party to serve as President (1850-53)
  • Denied nomination of the Whig Party in 1862.
  • Nominated for President by the American ("Know-Nothing&quot Party in 1856.

Even at the time he served, he was probably a better President than John Tyler or Fillmore's immediate predecessor, Zachary Taylor. In addition, he was succeeded by Franklin Pierce (an ancestor of Gee Dubya Frat Boy) and then by James Buchanan, who let the nation split apart at the end of his term while arguing that no right had the right to secede and the federal government didn't have any right to stop one one from seceding. Historians, from that day to this, have ranked Pierce and Buchanan below Fillmore.

And was Gee Dubya Frat Boy really the worst president ever? How could he have been when he lost two elections? That should make the worst presidents ever Al Gore and John Kerry, both so weak they couldn't even take office once elected.
