The Texas senator isn't happy his citizenship eligibility for president is being questioned.

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa -- Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says he thinks John McCain questioning his citizenship is an indication that the political establishment is in "full panic mode," and that the Arizona Republican senator's real motivation is that he secretly supports Marco Rubio for the Republican nomination.
"I think there's no doubt that the Washington cartel is in full panic mode," Cruz said, responding to questions from reporters before a town hall in an airplane hangar in Webster City, Iowa. "Everybody knows John McCain is going to endorse Marco Rubio."
The Texas senator's comments came after McCain said it's "worth looking into" whether Cruz is eligible to be the Republican presidential nominee since he was born in Canada. In an interview with a Phoenix CBS affiliate on Wednesday, McCain said questions raised by GOP front-runner Donald Trump over Cruz's eligibility are plausible.
Cruz says he anticipates Rubio will get an endorsement from McCain, which is why McCain brought up his birthplace as a potential stumbling block. "Their foreign policies are almost identical. Their immigration policies are identical," Cruz continued. "So it's no surprise that people who are supporting other candidates in this race are going to jump on the silly attacks that occur as we get closer and closer to this election."

(1,975 posts)I don't think the "establishment", as he puts it, are going into panic mode. It's a well known fact that he is one of the most hated politicians that is serving. This isn't just from the D side of the aisle, quite a few of that hatred is coming from his own side. I think he knows it, but he plays it off as if the heat he is getting stems from him being an outsider and not from him being a dick.

(8,573 posts)Why is the OP title totally unlike the snips, and why is a picture of Humphrey Bogart labeled as Sen. Ted Cruz? I know I just woke up, but I'm confused!

If you haven't seen the movie (or read the book) . . .

(18,837 posts)...Captain Queeg's paranoid / schizophrenic persecution complex mentality. He's right, the crew is wrong, everyone is out to get him.
Just like Ted's description of what's going on in his own life.

You can't find an auditorium to hold your political propaganda speech?

(101,311 posts)for this is one of them. Just like the birther nonsense about President Obama, the 'not a natural born citizen' stuff is a baseless diversion. Cruz is an awful human being, but his mother is American, and always has been (born in Delaware), and the law clearly makes him an American from birth too.
It's not paranoia; Trump and McCain are out to get him. That's what a primary is.

(18,837 posts)...I don't believe Cruz is blind to the percentage of people who loathe him. I see it more as apathy on his part. He probably knows, and just doesn't care. It's like the scene with Chaz Palminteri in "A Bronx Tale," where Lillo Brancato asks him if he would rather be respected or feared. Palminteri chooses "feared." My guess is that in Ted Cruz's mind, he probably thinks that the number of people who are disgusted by him is clear proof that he's "doing something right," but I just think it's a matter of this guy being slime and a lot of people on both sides of the aisle can see it.
So yes, I agree with you 100%...Trump and McCain are out to get him. Many of my conservative friends like Cruz. I think we already know that neither Ben Carson nor Carly Fiorina are going to get the nomination. If Trump implodes, they will most likely back either Cruz or Rubio.
If I walked through life as a complete dick, I'd accept the fact that I had painted a bullseye on my own back. I don't think that's the case with Cruz, and I do believe he has a bit of "persecution complex" going on.
