It's a real thing in GOP circles:
This week a great hue and kerfuffle has been raised by Marco Rubio's Republican presidential rivals because, on Monday, a New York Times reporter photographed Rubio's feet in a pair of shiny, somewhat flamboyant boots. (See above.) Such ostensibly "serious" candidates as Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, and Ted Cruz (or their representatives) all jumped in to laugh at how shiny, feminine, and European Rubio looked in his shiny girl-shoes.
Today someone asked Rubio about the boots at a town hall in Nashua, New Hampshire:
So let me get this right. ISIS is cutting peoples heads off, setting people on fire in cages. Saudi Arabia and Iran are on the verge of a war, he said, listing several more grave threats to the countrys safety and stability.
And people were worked up about his boots, he asked, incredulous ... The Florida senator said he had no idea that people were making such a fuss until his children told him on Wednesday night.
First off, yeah right that you didn't know about it until last night, Marco Rubio. You are surrounded 115 hours a day by people carrying smartphones whose only job and passion is to know instantaneously any time anything of any significance is said about you online. Your campaign told Politico what kind of boots you had on in the picture. (Florsheim.) If it took Marco Rubio a full 48 hours to find out that the New York Times and several of his opponents were talking about his boots I'll eat my hat/boot.

Dear Marco Rubio, you've ruffled the hyper sensitive masculine feathers of your party,as punishment you must don a cowboy hat with proper cowboy boots and chop a cord of wood before sundown.

I don't think they are all that flamboyant. He's young and (kind of) attractive. Maybe he has a boot fetish?
Honestly, the things that republicans get worked up about.

(15,381 posts)In order to look taller. In fact, at the end of one debate when they were all on stage, Jeb was next to Marco, and when the picture was snapped, Jeb went up on his tippy-toes to appear taller (Jeb is second-tallest already behind Kasich I believe). Wouldn't doubt it if he did it just to mock Rubio a bit.

(22,871 posts)subconsciously prefer the taller candidate, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he wears shoes with higher heels. Campaigns take that stuff seriously.

(15,381 posts)And apparently FOX has too. I remember in 2004 on FOX's website, they had Photoshopped George Bush to look taller than what he was. Kerry was still taller, but George was only about an inch or so shorter. I compared on photo of their standing next to each other from FOX with other photos taken at the same time. Drawing lines across W's eyes showed them equal with Kerry's chin in the non-FOX photos. In the FOX photos W's eyes were just under Kerry's. That's a good 3-4 inches.
