Too Big To Fail vs. Too Armed To Jail.

Dear pro-gun-safety politicians: If you're wondering where all the insane energy in the gun lobby comes from, just take a look in the mirror. You are REWARDING bad behavior.

For years, pro-gun control politicians have been dumbfounded by the fanatical enthusiasm that drives the gun lobby, and are at a loss to understand where all the energy comes from. But it's no mystery. The answer is clearly on display right now in Oregon: If you're heavily armed, you can do whatever the hell you want to do, and NOBODY, not even those who've been democratically invested with the authority of the law, can tell you what to do.

If ten teenage punks had occupied a cabin in a park, they'd have been pepper sprayed out in one day, and would be standing in front of a judge right now. If ten BLACK teenage punks had done the same thing, they'd be being fitted for coffins right now. But if ten white guys in cowboy hats, armed to the teeth with Bushmasters do it....the local sheriff is reduced to pathetically pleading with them to please leave voluntarily. Then walking away, humiliated, after having failed to do so. (See video below.)

Let's recap what happened at the Bundy Ranch:
Cliven Bundy was letting HIS cattle graze on public land that is owned by YOU, the Taxpayer. YOU have generously agreed to let ALL ranchers graze their cattle on your lands for a VERY modes fee. Bundy refused to pay that fee for decades, instead insisting on being a freeloader. Finally, after decades of this a court ordered him to pay, and when he refused, federal agents took his cattle (which were STILL grazing on YOUR land) as collateral. What happened next? A gang of heavily armed white guys in cowboy hats went to the place where the were being held and said "give them back, or we'll shoot." What did the federal agents do? They gave them back!

I had naively thought that our government would wait until the cameras were turned off, and arrest these thugs, one by one. But no. NOTHING has ever happened to any of them, Bundy still has his cattle, and he's still grazing on your land for free.

What's the message?
-If you're heavily armed, YOU'RE ALLOWED TO STEAL WITH IMPUNITY.
-If you're heavily armed, NOBODY can tell you what to do.
-If you're heavily armed, YOU DON'T HAVE TO OBEY THE LAW.

With a deal like that, is the energy that drives the pro-gun lobby really a MYSTERY??? If you really want to take some of the steam out of the insane gun lobby, how about NOT sending out this message?

Affirmative action in law enforcement for deadbeat white guys with a copy of the Constitution stuffed down their pants (which they've never actually read). I guess allowing them to run around waving Gadsden flags, occupying public buildings, and getting their food and booze money from CROWDSOURCING on Facebook is cheaper than having on welfare? *shrug*

5. Hard not to get frustrated with the kid glove approach.

Even though I KNOW there's no need to push this thing. Just get tired of the special treatment these guys are getting. Of course, in an ideal world, all protesters would get this kind of response.

I'm trying to find an answer to the question: can you do civil disobedience while armed? It seems to me if they would surrender their weapons, they could go on with their protest as long as they want.

But then we remember Occupy, which had no weapons, and got no kid glove treatment.

8. A couple ways to view it

Cynical view: This is a historical truth. Violence=strength, and the ability to inflict violence is what gets shit done and makes it so you get your way.

Chris Hedges View: The elite, who at least indirectly control law enforcement, treats these elements with kid gloves because they know they will be a critical ally if the elite ever feel threatened enough to want to crack down on any dissident elements.
