Remember what happened when the Menominee Indians took over the Alexian Brothers Novitiate?

They needed a hospital and the Novitiate was empty. After some negotiations they moved in prematurely.

Eventually Marlon Brando and Father Groppi showed up to help negotiate.

Here is the Alexian link to their story: http://www.alexianbrothers.org/?id=2564&sid=21

Here is the Chicago Tribune story: http://archives.chicagotribune.com/1975/02/03/page/1/article/indian-pact-then-gunfire

And here is a short story pdf written from the viewpoint of someone inside the building. http://ooligan.pdx.edu/wp-content/uploads/NovitiateFalls.pdf

PS - The Menominee leaders were arrested.

However I think there is a big difference to what Bundy is doing because the Natives were not armed and it was no longer a prison. In Oregon they are butting into the locals business with no understanding of the local issues. The Native occupation of Alcatraz was well thought out and from what I understand was quite positive for Native Americans and Gov. policies related to Native Americans.
