In a letter sent to the Federal Election Commission, Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz for the first time acknowledged that he received a previously undisclosed loan from Citibank for his 2012 Senate campaign. The letter said that he received two loans, which came from Goldman Sachs and Citibank and totaled about $1 million, and that they were “inadvertently omitted." Cruz has often said he funded his Senate run by liquidating his family savings. Up to this point, Cruz had only acknowledged his loan from Goldman Sachs, where his wife works.
