The ivory trade is pushing elephants to the edge of extinction, and Yahoo is making a killing from trinket sales in Japan! But right now we have a chance to end this corporate complicity.
Several big brands like Google and Amazon are refusing to sell ivory. Yahoo is one of the few major online markets left. But we could influence that decision. Right now Yahoo is losing some of its best employees, and the CEO is offering millions to convince people to stay. If we threaten to lift the lid on Yahoos bloody secret, she could lose staff even faster, and may reconsider the costs of this cruel trade.

(3,660 posts)The more that is done to shut down trade in pre-ban items, of which there are many many thousands if not millions, the more we will jack up the price as people seek grey and black market sources. The more the price for ivory of any kind, even that already made generations ago from elephants long dead, goes up, the more it incentivizes poaching as people react to the S curve with higher prices, regardless of cost/risk.
The best defense against ivory poaching is to make pre-ban trading, certified and audited, as easy and low cost as possible and make poaching as risky and expensive as possible. That keeps the S curve as low as possible.
