'Want Me to Go Down There With a Mop?' Chris Christie Says About NJ Flooding Cleanup

http://abcnews.go.com/US/mop-chris-christie-nj-flooding-cleanup/story?id=36513815

Chris Christie took exception to a student who asked the New Jersey governor -- who is campaigning for president -- why he wasn't back in the state helping clean up from flooding associated with the weekend's historic winter storm.

"Do you want me to go down there with a mop?" Christie asked in Hooksett, NH, after being questioned by the student, who has friends in New Jersey.

Severe flooding devastated sections of the Jersey Shore with Cape May experiencing a record storm surge of more than 9 feet.

“It's already done. It’s already done,” Christie said of the cleanup process.

At the end of his response, Christie asked the student to give him the names and numbers of her friends who are concerned about the cleanup process in New Jersey and promised to call them personally tonight.

There you go again, Christ Christie. Threatening and hurting the victims so maybe they will shut up about your failings. The very definition of a bully.

So, in a word response, yes, we want you to go down there with a mop.

Christie fatigue. I just can't keep up. The man's a real charmer. I assure you that the damage in Cape May County and Cumberland County was significant. Instead of showing concern however, we get the usual insults.

'Crazy mayor' slams Christie in wake of 'mop' comment

MANCHESTER, N.H. — The mayor of North Wildwood, whom Chris Christie referred to on the campaign trail as "crazy," said Tuesday he's deeply disappointed with the governor.

Mayor Patrick Rosenello assailed the governor's decision to return quickly to the campaign trail instead of staying in New Jersey to help with the cleanup after the weekend blizzard.

The mayor endorsed both of Christie's gubernatorial runs. But he got caught in Christie's wrath Monday night, when the governor declared that he "heard one crazy mayor down in South Jersey say this is worse flooding than Sandy."

Gov. Chris Christie was pressed by a questioner at his latest town hall because of his return to the presidential campaign immediately after the storm

Christie made the comment after a questioner at a town hall event pressed the governor on why he wasn't in New Jersey helping with the cleanup. Christie responded: "I don't know what you want me to do, you want me to go down there with a mop?"

The mayor promptly issued a statement.

"I am disappointed that he would lower himself as much as he did," Rosenello said. "I am more disappointed, however, in the evident lack of concern or respect that he is showing for the first responders, residents, business and property owners of North Wildwood, Cape May County and other areas of New Jersey impacted by this storm."

Rosenello also swiped at the governor's quick return to the presidential campaign trail.

"Having spent the entirety of this event in North Wildwood and coordinating with our emergency responders to safely rescue approximately 150 people from their flooded homes, my perspective is somewhat different from that of the Governor as he campaigns in New Hampshire," he said.

But while you're out there campaigning for a raise and a promotion, you might consider taking some time to do the job you supposedly have now. Or turn your paycheck back over to the state of New Jersey.

Too good for a mop, Chris?

Those people with the mops--going to pay them for saving the state from flooding, or are you going to pay them $7.50/hr?

“I worked the cones, actually,” Christie joked. “Unbeknownst to everybody, I was actually the guy out there. I was in overalls and hat, but I was actually the guy working the cones out there. You really are not serious with that question?

Way to go Christie, reminding everyone who may have forgotten about your previous attempts to substitute bluster instead of actually answering the question.

Keep him away from the snow shovel. He's not ready for the workload.
