The genius of Trump™ is that he's playing outside the system. The other doofuses (doofi?) are still playing inside the beltway, playing to the Sunday morning news shows which nobody watches anymore. They think Chuck Todd's opinion actually matters to anyone. Trump™ knows better. He's a consummate salesman (read: liar). He has never said ANYTHING about what he'll actually do. He just says his nothing with passion! It fires up the base, just as any snake oil salesman can fire up the crowd at the county fair.

1. That is the amazing thing about it all

He has said virtually nothing on policy. Everything is conflict with people like Cruz, Kelly, etc.

So he can now position himself any way he wants in the general. How many nominees get to skate through the process without having to take a policy position?

2. His supporters do not care what he says

Its just that he is angry and hates the far left. That is all he needs to say, and say it with sarcasm. He is popular with young voters too, which scares me. Because if Sanders is our nominee, which I am starting to believe he will be, then he needs to win the youth vote. Trump may not be the pushover I thought he would be initially.
