Black Lives Matter St. Paul: Charge cop who posted ‘Run them over’

Black Lives Matter St. Paul called for a criminal charge Friday against the St. Paul police sergeant who posted on social media “Run them over” in advance of a protest they held Monday.

The mayor’s spokeswoman, Tonya Tennessen, said the city has not ruled out pursuing criminal charges. She said she could not comment further, other than to say the internal investigation continues.

Sgt. Jeffrey Rothecker is on paid administrative leave from the police department, where he’s worked for 22 years.

Rothecker apologized Wednesday for posting a comment in response to an article Jan. 15; he referred to protesters as “idiots” and detailed what drivers could do to avoid being charged with a crime if their vehicles struck someone during the unpermitted protest.
