Obama says wants top court justice with 'independent mind,' urges Senate action

WASHINGTON

U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday said he is seeking to nominate a Supreme Court justice who has an "independent mind" who does understands how the rule of law "affects the daily reality of people’s lives."

In a post on scotusblog.com, Obama also urged the Senate to fulfill its constitutional duty to consider his nominee when he selects someone to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, and to move quickly to debate and then confirm his choice.
