(115,732 posts)The GOPers say they won't consider any nominee - but what will they do if one of their own is being vetted? Doesn't mean he'll be the actual nominee. I think Obama is fucking with them.

Theres way more opposition to the governor within the Republican legislative caucus than the Democratic one, says David Damore, a professor of political science at UNLV. Hes by far the most popular political figure in the state
yet its this unspoken part of the caucuses on the Republican side that the presidential candidates need to keep their distance. Unspoken seems about right: In dozens of events in the 72-hour period leading up to the caucuses, hardly any candidate has mentioned Sandoval, a feat that would be difficult to imagine in South Carolina or Iowa, both primary states with (far less popular) Republican governors.
I doubt he'd get enough votes in the Senate and he's already publicly said he wasn't interested in the SC, for what that's worth.

(33,587 posts)Nominate a GOPer for the Court, and after the Senate starts its hearings. Then withdraw the nomination and put in a democratic one.
Then cant say that they won't start the process for any nomination. If the already did for a Repuke.

(35,441 posts)First, you nominate a Republican to replace SCOTUS and when his fellow Republicans deny even holding hearings, you get the following:
1. Nevada, a swing state, gets pissed and votes against the Republicans in the general election.
2. The Latino vote gets even more pissed off at Republicans.
3. The Republicans will have more dissention within their ranks.
Brilliant move, Obama.

(10,137 posts)just to see the ensuing fun on the GOP side of the Senate: "What do you mean you're blocking ME!?!?!?!?" Olympia Snow would be a good choice: she seems to be within shouting distance of sane.
