Irony.

I can't help thinking how in the U.S.A. shanty towns are not well tolerated. Before they become too well established the police arrive to remove everyone and then scrape their meager belongings into dumpsters using front-end loaders.

U.S. Americans are not far removed from the workhouse theories of the 19th century where it was assumed the poor were poor because they lacked religion an discipline, not that society was somehow failing people, or dislocating them. We already throw plenty of people into prison for reasons entirely unrelated to the safety of the general public.

These white people are about 1% of the shantytown dwellers. The rest are black or the totally forgotten "colored" who have no real place in either the old or the new SA. Meet the black boss, same as the white boss. The resource money gets handed to a very few who divvy it up. The other 99.99% get SFA.Too bad that it takes whites in photos to make poverty in SA

The British thought they were scum, the urban apartheid era Afrikaners thought they were scum, the Black population thinks they're scum. Take the most fucked up town in Appalachia and the issues are much the same.
