Ventura is an egotistical goofball, but as governor he was nothing like Trump. He's pretty much a garden-variety center-left-libertarian who did and said some stupid things - but he's never been a hater. During the time he was governor I don't remember him ever saying anything racist or anti-immigrant; he doesn't have Trump's fascist tendencies. The only similarity that I can think of was his tendency to desire the spotlight and to become irritated at criticism from the press; Jesse was thin-skinned and had a war going with the local media. Otherwise they are very different characters.

I have no idea why Minnesota GOPers went for Rubio over Trump but I doubt it had anything to do with Weird Jesse. Maybe they aren't quite as hateful, overall, as GOPers elsewhere.
