I really hate it when people say "I'm leaving the country if Trump wins"

I loathe that "I'm leaving the country" cliche. When our country's being corrupted by fascism, the worst thing to do is quit and leave the field. I might lose my country to extremists, but I'll be damned if they get a bye.

and if Trump wins I'll be considering whether to keep my US citizenship. (And personally I don't care if someone decides to leave; I wouldn't criticise someone who got out of Germany in 1936, either.)

Its my country also and I will stay and do what I can to change it. If I leave they win a little bit more. Besides I cant see it going on for more than 4 years, of course I couldn't see Trump getting this far so what do I know?

Thats intentional.

People are at the mercy of politicians and their corporate employers. Democracy is all we have.

It may be a good time to leave now, before the rush.

And we have a home and two apartments there.

We are a mixed race couple and with his looks and accent those ignorant jerks can't tell Italian from Swahili from Spanish or Japanese. They see "Mexican Immigrants" everywhere - and are just that stupid. I seriously believe there is something broken in their heads.

So we'd leave in a heartbeat. He has the advantage of growing up surrounded by former Fascists. He's not fucking around - we would be out. It will be as bad as it was in Italy, Spain, and Germany in the 1930s for "others".

When his Uncle Nicola at 96 and of sound mind - you can see him in numerous pictures with Mussolini - tells us to get out if we think Trump is close - he means it. He's seen how bad it can get. He was part of it and can go point by point how Trump is rising.

sometimes a person has been fighting so long but the system never changes regardless of what party is in office and they just cant take it anymore. Sometimes it is a matter of making a better life for your kids. I respect your opinion though and I understand what you are saying but I do not have a problem when someone moves to a better place.

made the right choice when they left Germany. should they have stayed?

Sometimes, it's just not your country anymore.

If the majority of Americans think Trump is the man to run things, this might not be my country anymore.

and that goes for young people just starting out. They may not want to serve the financial sector with their hard work for peanuts and they may not want to have children to be used as fodder for the next profitable war.

Most of us are pretty rooted here with families and jobs. Besides that, a good portion of us also have no relatives in any other country. A lot of other countries have strict requirements for who can move there too. It would only make sense if something horrible was happening here, like ethnic cleansing.

For most of the developed liberal democracies that Americans would want to move to, unless you're bringing a ton of money or really specialized education and skills with you, it's really difficult to emigrate. People always make it seem like you can just hop on a plane to France, and say "I'm here!"

If they cannot stop him via political means, then other means will be employed.

We just may find out what it was like for Argentines and Brazilians who lived under military rule.

The military may not cooperate with a President Trump's war crimes policies, but there's no way in hell the US military would attempt a coup--especially before the inauguration. Sorry. Anyone stating this is completely ignorant of what the US military's culture is like. They are fiercely pro-democratic, anti-political, and entirely patriotic.

Of course, it won't be called that because it doesn't apply to DEM EBIL HWHITE PEEPLEZ exclusively. It's just more 'Oh I'm such a noble person that I'd leave my life of comfort because someone disagrees with my ideas' class/wealth signalling.
