You must be writing in your sleep! LOL I have to pick up the pace...I'm being passed by trolls who have thus far evaded detection. (I'm only partially kidding about that, I've seen quite a few with higher posts counts, so beware).

I think some people live here.

(10,749 posts)I also have 15 years and I'm still under 5,000.
Well, the arithmetic suggests 27 posts a day, every day, for 10 years will get you to 100,000. Wow!

(2,840 posts)But then, I'm not exactly what one would call a "political junkie." Politically aware, yes, but not someone who spends a lot of her copious free time talking about politics, or arguing or pontificating on political message boards.
I visit DU in fits and spurts, but I don't comment much when I do visit.

(4,741 posts)I mean, I follow this place voraciously, but as I've always said "politics is not one of my hobbies" so I rarely get involved. I literally do not have the time to make 10-100 posts a day.

(10,336 posts)to how I feel about an issue. Of damn near any kind. But I'm a junkie, and follow it daily, in all media. I'm disabled, and mostly stick to home, so there is more time for that now.

(4,741 posts)It's just a succinct way of saying "While I take a great interest in following politics, my preferred free time activities don't include involved discussions on political issues" - but if yours do, by all means go for it!
Seriously - if I had invested as much "hobby" time into politics as I have my own interests, since i joined in 05 I'd easily have 100k posts here. It's not that I lack personal time, I'd just rather spend it elsewhere.

(149,611 posts)When I first joined, I was about to retire, and after I did, I practically lived here!
I was new to the internet, and I was fascinated by all the things I could read and talk about. I did post a lot in the early days.
Someone computed my daily average back then, and I was posting about 40 posts a day. It adds up!
After I got to 100K, I did slow down.
A little.

(10,336 posts)And thank you, my dear Peggy- (or is it mydearPeggy? I can't remember)- for the kind words!

(149,611 posts)One way to get your post count up pretty quickly is to respond to EVERY poster in your thread. It adds up FAST!

(10,336 posts)oh look, a shiny thing- Seriously though, I should. Not always sure what to say, and I have hard time remembering names (its a medical thing). So except for a few, I can't seem to remember. The ones on my for sure remember list are names like Mineral Man, Ken Burch, Omaha Steve, H2O man, and my number one fan crush is Octafish. May as well give a few shout outs while I'm here.

(4,616 posts)Although I'm a relative newbie, joining in 2002.
Pretty soon movies made after 2000 will show up on Turner Classic Movies, then I'll really feel old!
I, too, cannot comprehend how posters have the time to post tens of thousand of posts (I think I'm just a little bit over 3000). On another site (U75), I used to passionately engage with a right-wing user that was amassing more than 10,000 posts a year. I knew it was the same person, because we'd pick up arguments where we left off (and he praised me for my diction - I used to be able to write before senility kicked in). However, depending on what time of day I'd engage this user, sometimes he had no idea who I was or what we previously discussed. (I posted much more actively on that site and had a bit of a following, so it struck me as strange.) Others noticed the same. So we concluded that he really was more than 1 person, and they were assigned to propagate right-wing memes and obstruct arguments that otherwise steered consent to the left. In fact there were several users where we could say the same. I never saw concrete evidence proving anything, but it sure did seem like we were being trolled by teams of people signing on with the same userid. Thus "they" had lots of time to post tens-of-thousands of posts per year.

(10,952 posts)pick up during both of Obama's Presidential election years. I have become so fed up with the US election process and both political parties that I don't post as much anymore as I pretty much try to tune the election out. The Democratic Party needs to get people like DWS out of the national election process. She is no Howard Dean. I would like to see Joe Biden become involved with the national election process after he leaves office. He could at least make it a more positive process.
I chose to vote for Obama, it is an easy decision to vote for Sanders but a vote for Clinton feels too much like voting for the lesser of the evils. If the Republican presidental race was not so much of a clown car, the Democratic Party would be in a world of hurt.
It has become easier to just not engage in political discourse. No doubt Clinton would be better than any of the Republicans but I still want change and a more liberal President and that won't be her. In the absence of Sanders being the Democratic candidate the only thing that will drive me to the polls in November is former Democratic US Senator (now Univ. of OK President) Davie Boren's drive to make Oklahoma the state with the highest sales tax. I will show up to vote a big fat NO to that and will vote for the Democratic nominee while there.

(6,496 posts)and I think I post a lot, yet I've got under 4,000 still. I guess a lot of times I read and don't post. It depends on how I am feeling. I don't post much if there isn't a lot going on. There's a lot more excitement with the current presidential race, so I'm more often.

Being parsimonious with your participation is not necessarily a bad trait!

(37,573 posts)but some people post a lot and some people get a lot of replies on the threads they post and then post replies to those replies. Many people are writing very short posts. There always were a few of those, but way back in the day this place was less like twitter than it is now.
