"For the last three decades the Clintons have lived at the intersection of money and politics trading their political influence to enrich their personal finances. They embody the term crony capitalism. It disgusts the American people, and causes them to lose faith in our political process," he said. "

And they are masters at both. Unfortunately, we're now hearing similar strains of thought about the Clintons right here at DU, which should ideally be a haven from such thinking.

(4,229 posts)3. I'm not sure that's what we are hearing here.
What I hear here is not so much that the Clintons have traded money for influence, but that they have gotten money from a lot of wealthy influential people and businesses.
I think some people here, including myself look at Hillary's website, and what she says she might do in the way of progressive ideas, and we like it. However given the fact they really have made so much money from the rich and powerful, that we question her word as far as making good on some of the ideas she has put out there.
So while I think a lot of people here are way over the top in their bashing Clinton, a lot of her and Bills interactions with the elite have raised legitimate questions as far as whether those providing her income, a lot of which share no common concerns with the middle class, will have too much influence on policy when she's president.
I'm voting for Sanders, but if she wins I'm willing to take her at her word and vote for her. However I think some of the stuff her and Bill have done have definitely made it harder for people to trust that she is on their side.
