General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have made my decision, for Republicans, I prefer Trump to Cruz.
Trump is out for himself, and i doubt he believes in anything but Trump.
Cruz is a holy warrior. I you think living in an Oligarchy is bad, you don't want to live in a Theocracy.
With one Supreme Court Justice waiting to be appointed by the next President, and the two most liberal members of the court being among the oldest, I do not want to see Roy Moore and his clones on the bench.

(17,320 posts)and give Bernie some support. In your mind, what would be the differences pro con between the two?
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)I would rather Republicans nominate Trump than Cruz.
I think either candidate will beat them both, but every election has an element of risk. I think Cruz is too big of a risk.

(58,653 posts)I would say the difference between Trump and Cruz is like the difference between having your throat cut and your head chopped off.
No matter what happens on our side, I'm voting Dem in the general.

Obama and the Dems will work the political wires with this message: "Do Your Job."
After that, they'll bring the issue to the SC itself. The court would obviously vote for the Republicans to "do their job." There's no precedent for anything else.
After that, the Dems will trot out all the past GOP presidents and any other surviving big shots to encourage Republicans to "Do Your Job." Bob Dole, Coleman Powell, even all the Bushes, for example.
After that, Republicans in Congress will find themselves in an election crisis.
After that, Obama could legally make a recess assignment.
There is NO WAY IN HELL that Obama won't push through a Supreme Court nominee.

(12,381 posts)Cruz is far far far more dangerous than Trump or any republican in history.
If he gets woman and gay rights will be back to that of the middle ages.

(41,205 posts)In general I agree that unprincipled panderers are not quite as dangerous as ideologues; but once they sell their souls to the ideologues they become as dangerous.
From what one can gather: Cruz is a bigot, very crazy, and strongly believes in the right of the mighty to trample on the less mighty whether the rich over the poor, the majority groups over the minorities, the well-armed countries over the less well-armed, etc. Trump is unprincipled, very stupid, believes in the right of the rich to trample on the poor because it suits his selfish interests, and in other respects has sold his soul (for fame and power, not money which he has already) to bigots, who strongly believe in the right of the mighty to trample on the less mighty.
In terms of their policies, it will come to the same thing.
If either of them gets elected, it will convince me that there is no intelligent life on Earth, let alone anywhere else!

(11,619 posts)Trump only believes in Trump.
Cruz is a religious fanatic and dominionist.
In a fair election, I think Democrats will kick their ass. However, elections are not always fair. If I have to take the risk, I'd rather it be Trump.
