Watch a 90-year-old husband and wife play Bach together in this beautiful video

They've been married for over 65 years: when this couple sit at the piano, something magical happens.

"Composer and pianist György Kurtág is one of the most important figures in music from the past 100 years. He has also played with his wife, Márta, another very accomplished pianist, for many years. Recent footage taken from a live concert in Budapest reveals the depth of their musical understanding.

The couple play transcriptions made by the composer of Bach's choral prelude Das alte Jahr vergangen ist BWV 614, his Duet BWV 804 and a movement from the Baroque composer's cantata Actus tragicus.

I imagine there's something extra in that.

I wouldn't be surprised if their signatures look a little shakier than they they did 40 years ago, or that they have a hard time getting in and out of a car, but somehow their fingers move over that piano with precision. That's cool in all sorts of ways.

I'm going to get the score to that Bach piece and do a midi-sample piano rendition and perhaps a small instrumental ensemble as well.

I sent it to a very dear friend who plays the piano beautifully and is dealing with the death of her beloved dog.

His music just hits me in a way no other music does.

Listening to it is one thing, but getting to really know a piece and playing it yourself brings it to another level for me. I've probably spent at least 100 hours in the last couple of months working on learning the Franz Liszt transcription of BWV 542 and BWV 543. Even though I've heard and played these pieces thousands of times, I still can't get enough of them.

I never realized it, until I had a kid who played serious violin. It's incredible stuff.

His music transcends human logic. Further, it isn't necessary for the listener to be a trained musician. The beauty is there for all. Happy for you that you discovered him. Good luck with 542 and 543.
