http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/03/donald-trump-rally-pastor-bernie-sanders-needs-to-accept-jesusThe comment came at a rally in Hickory, North Carolina, on Monday morning, as Pastor Mark Burns warmed up the crowd for Trumpwho was running late because of a plane delay. Burns, who has spoken at previous Trump events, told the audience that in order to be taken seriously as a presidential candidate, Sanders needs to accept Christianity.
"Bernie Sanders, who doesn't believe in God," Burns said. "How in the world are we going to let BernieI mean really? Listen, Bernie gotta get saved, he gotta meet Jesus. I don't know, he gotta have a coming to Jesus meeting."

(12,835 posts)Pastor Burns, you may want to review the history of the Christian faith.
(Hint: Jesus was Jewish.)

One speaker called for getting rid of 911 and everyone just taking care of things themselves. Another was a Veteran who claimed to have "shed blood" on all 7 Continents in service to MURKA. Yes all 7.

(5,624 posts)have we ever had hostilities on our own continent that required the regular US Army "shedding blood"? I am pretty sure that's forbidden by Posse Comiatus in the acception of declared war. Is he of the age that he fought in the Spanish American War, or the Mexican or Civil war?

(57,349 posts)Being Jewish is cultural, not just religious.
Bernie Sanders would be the first Jewish president in American history, but he doesn't talk about it much on the campaign trail.
On Sunday, Anderson Cooper asked him whether he was intentionally downplaying his heritage. Sanders gave a great response one that this Jewish writer, in particular, found incredibly moving:
No, I'm very proud of being Jewish. And being Jewish is so much of what I am.
Look, my father's family was wiped out by Hitler in the Holocaust. I know about what crazy and radical and extremist politics mean. I learned that lesson as a tiny, tiny child when my mother would take me shopping, and we would see people working in stores who had numbers on their arms because they were in Hitler's concentration camps.
I'm very proud of being Jewish. And that's an essential part of who I am as a human being.

(54,051 posts)I would say it is shocking how little people seem to know about Jews, but given the anti-Semitism I have seen and the excuses made for it, I am not really at all surprised. There is a reason history repeats itself; ignorance!

(1,178 posts)Jews are not required to believe in God. This is one way we differ from Christianity, which is a faith-based religion. Judaism is a law-based religion. Jews are required to follow the commandments in the Torah, so if you don't worship another god and keep the rules, your lack of personal faith is not going to condemn you (which is not to say that being a public atheist is a good idea in an observant community). The big complaint you read about Bernie in religious Jewish publications is not that he doesn't believe in God, but that he doesn't follow the commandments.

(5,376 posts)Clearly, as I understand what that means, Burns has never had that experience. A red-letter version of the Gospels might be in order, as well. What an ugly excuse for a human being he is, much less a "pastor".
Shame on him! He makes me embarrassed to be a Christian, lapsed though I am.
