Well-meaning activists endanger syrian refugees for cheap publicity

The greek town Idomeni is site of a camp of middle-eastern refugees trying to make it further into Europe. Except that Macedonia has closed the border and Greece is moving to dissolve the camp (as it's very close to the border). Oh, and the camp is in horrible condition. Greece is trying to move the refugees inwards and spread them among other camps with better living-conditions.

And now some activists distributed leaflets in arabic that the refugees will be sent back to Turkey.
The refugees were encouraged to cross the border illegally. "They can arrest you if you come as a dozen, but not if you come as thousands."

Wanna guess what happened next?

About a thousand refugees (estimates range from 700 to 2000) tried to cross a river and enter Macedonia.

The activists were in their midst and made dramatic and heart-wrenching photoshots of refugees braving a river...

Macedonian soldiers and police stopped them. They were put into trucks and hauled back to Greece.

So, when you see those photos online on other websites in a few hours, remember that these refugees were talked by activists into going on a dangerous and futile trip.
The activists lied to the refugees.
The activists must have known that Macedonia had secured the border.
But they sent the refugees there anyway just so they can score some emotional photos.
