I am 47 yrs old and in my life time he is the most effective president we have had (Just my opinion)
For us Bay Area folks I was listening to Ronn Owens, for some reason people think this idiot is liberal he is center right but I guess if he is not that outright crazy guy who broadcast from SF, Michael Savage. You must be classified as liberal
Owens say's today that Obama is not a good president but then he offers this caveat Obama is not the worst in his life time, thought he was going to say dubya, nope Jimmy Carter, so he is saying dubya is better than Obama? DO people forget the 8 nightmare years of Bush II, And then insult Carter who was better than both of the Bush's
seriously this guy is supposed to be some radio god, radio hall of fame guy, I don't know on what criteria
ok I got it out I will step away from the key board

(5,764 posts)But that also needs to be taken in the context of the fact that modern presidents have skewed wildly right as a group and far better is possible. He did what he could within that context, I'm glad he did, particularly coming after Bush the contrast was striking... but FAR more is needed.

(3,510 posts)Whenever I hear from someone that Obama is the worst president ever or close to it, I want to blow a gasket. So sick of this nonsense.

(1,662 posts)He passed mandatory health insurance. The people wanted universal health care.
He allowed the violent repression of occupy wall street many of whom voted for Obama and their voices went ignored. while state and local police violated their civil rights.
He militarily supports dictators in the middle east. brutal men that oppress women, murder homosexuals and behead political prisoners. The Saudis cut off more heads than ISIS.
The middle east is in complete chaos because of continued US meddling.
He has continued CIA operations to interfere in Democratic elections and in foreign governments.
He has continued NSA spying on American citizens.
He kept most of the Bush Tax Cuts in place.
He has allowed Republicans to run amok and even take back the house and senate.
I see very few success stories with Obama. I guess the top 1% have doubled their wealth and more people are poor and the middle class is collapsing I guess that would be considered effective if he were a Republican.

(1,662 posts)Obama's failure is he has continued too many of the Bush policies. No real change. Infact since Reagan our government has moved along basically unchanged.
Its still running on trickle down economics
Its still favoring Multi-national corporations
It still allows banksters and wall street and corporations to pollute our world, plunder our natural resources, siphon our wealth, embezzle our tax dollars, wage unending wars, exploit workers, exploit consumers and lie cheat steal and murder.

(1,642 posts)In 2008, we had majorities in both houses of Congress. What did he do with it?
During his time as president, the Democrats have lost:
900+ State legislators
12 governors
69 congresspersons
12 senators
Obviously, these were the sacrificial pawns in his chess game.
People like to blame Democratic voters for not coming out in 2010. At that point, the Obama administration had already shown that they were third-way corporatists whose interests were not in line with the public. Although I did vote in 2010, I understand why so many stayed home.
These losses were catastrophic and well beyond the normal dip in votership for midterm elections.
Whenever people speak about how much they don't like Debbie Wasserman Schultz, they need to remember who appointed her. What she does is done with his approval.

Like all presidents, time will provide a much clearer picture.

(1,642 posts)... just watch him try to sell the TPP to people who aren't buying it. Pay attention to his body language. Even he doesn't believe what he's saying.
He probably is the best president since LBJ. But, that's not saying much.
